Fall Go By Bike Weeks 2023

(October 16 – 29)

This tri-annual FREE event (formerly Bike to Work Week) encourages anyone in the Capital Region to give cycling a try for one week.

Why Register?

Cycling is proven to improve happiness and productivity, as well as both mental and physical health! With gas prices on the rise, there is no better time to leave the car at home. Not to mention, it’s super fun!

Aside from personal benefits, Capital Bike organizes Celebration Stations along popular cycling routes, runs challenges, and offers hundreds of prizes.

Additionally, Go By Bike Week is a strong advocacy tool for us. These numbers help us work with local leaders to improve cycling in the Capital Region!

How To Participate

Put simply, register, go for a bike ride, and log a ride on GoByBikeBC.ca!

To get the most out of Go By Bike Week, visit one of our famous Celebration Stations, start a team and ride with friends, have a little friendly competition, and leave the car at home!

Plus, the more you ride, the better prizes you’re eligible to win!

Encourage others to ride, run challenges or competitions, plan group rides, and spend quality time together! Winning teams will be drawn every week leading up to the start of Fall Go By Bike Week!

Celebration Stations

To encourage riding during Go By Bike Week, we set up Celebration Stations along popular cycling routes! Any wheeled gas-free vehicles welcome (bikes, scooters, one-wheels, skateboards, etc.)!

At each station, you’ll find:

This manual showcases the basics and best practices of commuter cycling in BC, including information on the Motor Vehicle Act – know your rights as a cyclist!

CRD Bike Map

This online map shows all the bikeable paths in the Greater Victoria area. This is an EXCELLENT recourse when planning your routes as Google Maps is not always right. Sometimes its safer to choose a slightly longer route than to take a quicker, more dangerous route.

Learn2Ride Online Course (ages 9-12)

Learn2Ride Online is a free web-based course that helps children ages 9-12 yrs learn about basic cycling safety. Learn2Ride Online helps youth and their families learn skills to cycle safely and confidently around their neighbourhood.  It can be completed at home or at school, at any time, from any computer or device with an internet connection.

StreetWise Cycling Online (anyone ages 12+)

StreetWise Cycling Online helps beginner riders [adult and youth ages 12+] gain the knowledge and skills needed to start their cycling journeys with confidence. This is an interactive course, brought to you by HUB Cycling and GoByBike BC Society. The course can be accessed at any time, from any computer or device with an internet connection.  It’s estimated that it will take you approximately 1-2 hours to complete, which can be broken up into several sessions.

  2. Go for a bike ride!
  3. Log at least two rides through GoByBikeBC.ca .

There are 4 prize categories: Grand, Gold, Silver, Bronze. For all prize categories, you must register for Go By Bike Week on GoByBikeBC.ca and log at least two rides.

GRAND ($500+):

  • visit 4+ Celebration Stations and collect 4+ stamps on your Station passport, in addition to logging all of your rides on GoByBikeBC.ca.

Gold prize ($250+)

  • Go for 8+ rides and log those 8+ rides on GoByBikeBC.ca

Silver prize ($100 +)

  • Go for 4+ rides and log those 4+ rides on GoByBikeBC.ca

Bronze prize ($5 +)

  • Go for 2+ rides and log those 2+ rides on GoByBikeBC.ca
