Regional Trails Widening Project to Begin Early 2026

The CRD has been planning for some time to widen and light the Galloping Goose and Lochside trails. The improvements will bring urgently needed pedestrian and cycling separation to the most congested parts of our vital trail network. New path lighting will help with safety and comfort for users at night.

We are very excited for this badly-needed project! We hope you are too. There will be various detours in place as construction progresses. We’ll have updates posted to our Upcoming Projects Affecting Regional Trails page.

Trail improvements include:

  • Renewing the Brett, Selkirk, and Swan Lake trestles
  • Widening up to 4 km of the Galloping Goose Regional Trail between Selkirk Trestle and Grange Road (adjacent to McKenzie Avenue)
  • Widening 2 km of the Lochside Regional Trail between the Switch Bridge and McKenzie Avenue/Borden Street
  • Adding energy-efficient lighting for visibility and safety
