Would you like a place for you and your kids to ride their bikes in a skills parks? We do!
And we’re working with SIMBS and coordinating letters with a number of local bike clubs to call for a bike skills park. But we need your help with increasing Saanich’s Parks, Trails and Recreation Budget for 2019-2023.
How can you help get a bike park built? Send an email to Saanich council below:
What should I say?
- Thank them for acknowledging a need for a youth park, tell them you’re excited for McMinn Park in Cordova Bay
- Let them know about how excited you are to ride a new youth park
- Ask them to increase the funding for the Parks, Trails and Recreation budget to build a bike youth park. We’re suggesting:
- a dirt jump park
- and all-weather paved pump track
- Do you already love Cecelia Ravine, North Saanich Freeride Park or the Stevie Smith in Nanaimo? If so:
- Why do you love those places?
- Do you meet new friends there?
- Do you like getting the kids outside?
- Maybe it allows children and parents to recreate together?
- Does biking with older kids/adults/pros inspire you to ride your bike more?
- If you are a Saanich resident or live in Greater Victoria, make sure you note that
- We need parents, teens, children to weigh in! (Please include a note of parental permission in your email.)
- Ask for a park in southern Saanich so many teens and families can access it on their bikes
- Tell Council how it would improve your quality of life or happiness, and reduce driving time
- Try to keep it positive and constructive, spread the bike love <3
Thanks everybody that sent in letters! Early news is good, but we’ll have more to share later
