We’ve been actively engaging with the community and City Council to ensure that Victoria’s bike and roll network is built to All Ages and Abilities (AAA) standards, prioritizes connections to Community Villages, and uses inclusive language that reflects all active transportation users. After a community survey in the fall, we submitted a letter outlining key recommendations. We encourage you to continue to reach out to local councilors and city officials to show your support for active transportation infrastructure in this plan.
Expanding Safe Infrastructure in the 2025 City Budget
The 2025 Victoria City budget includes important investments in bike and roll infrastructure as part of the Multi-Modal Corridor Improvements, such as upgrades to Blanshard Street and Cook Street. These projects face some community opposition and budget pressure, so we are actively advocating for their full funding and implementation. We’ve been urging Council to maintain and expand these investments to create a connected, accessible, and climate-friendly transportation network.
How You Can Get Involved
The Victoria Local Committee is a small but welcoming group dedicated to making cycling safer and more accessible in Victoria. We meet monthly, alternating between in-person and online meetings, and are always scheming ways to get more people riding safely. Interested in learning more, joining our email list, or attending a meeting? Email our Chairperson at patrick.schreck@capitalbike.ca. We’d love to hear from you!
